Sue and Martin look forward to meeting you at Deer Park Farm.
Martin had been involved with conventional farming. Sue is a land agent Chartered Surveyor. Sue had worked with the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, and Devon Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group. Understanding environmental countryside management and becoming unhappy with the effects of agro-chemical input in conventional farming the decision was made on moving to Deer Park to farm Organically.
When our family grew up and left home to pursue their careers in farm management and land agency, the Old Estate Office became our new venture into self catering bed and hamper breakfast.
Our organic principals are applied throughout the property. When the Old Estate Office was converted we used many reclaimed materials. The roof is covered with reclaimed welsh slate, well insulated with sheep wool felted from Herdwick sheep from the Lake District. The wool would otherwise have little value as it so coarse. Heating is with a very efficient Scandinavian wood burning stove, backed up by lpg. The floor is reclaimed Canadian Maple wood from a Lancashire cotton mill over 100 years old.
All the wall and ceiling paints are natural water based mineral colours without the use of solvents.
Our bathroom soaps are organic and cleaning products are ecological.
We are proud of what we have achieved encouraging wildlife on the farm. (More details under the farm tab.)
Most of the hedges on the farm have been planted by us and we farm with the help of a mid-tier countryside stewardship scheme to help enhance the environment.
Martin and Sue have until recently ridden. They enjoy walking, Sue has recently taken up golf, Martin has recently tried his hand at fly-fishing. When time allows Martin sails and likes to ski.
We enjoy welcoming you to our farm and look forward to pointing you in the right direction for enjoyable, relaxing rest in the locality.
If we can help in any way do contact us.
